Healthy feline eyes are clear and bright. However a condition called iris melanosis can result in the development of brown freckles or patches of pigment on the iris usually in middle aged to older cats. Gums should be pink. It also fights bacteria.

If your cat s eyes appear red or inflamed if she has unusual drainage from her eyes some moisture in the eyes is normal and healthy. Known as the tear film this layer removes debris. Your veterinarian can run the right tests diagnose the correct disease and prescribe the appropriate treatment but only if your cat is in his office. Report any discharge to your veterinarian. It s not unusual for the iris to change with age. Eye problems can bring out another cat entirely one who paws at their eyes squints or blinks excessively. Each eye is a different color. When a cat is sick the third eyelid will partially close which is a signal to get him to the vet immediately if other symptoms present.
